Curriculum Descriptions     


The IPNRC has developed several courses of education for parish nurses with the assistance of parish nurses and educators from across the country. Use the following links below to obtain content for the courses:

  • Basic Preparation Course - developed to answer the need for core parish nurse content.
  • Coordinator Preparation Course - provides material to help the nurse who supervises programs, works with institutions, agencies, and various faith communities
  • Faculty Preparation Course - designed to prepare parish nurses wishing to teach others the Basic Prep Course
  • Roster of Educational Partners and Instructors - listing of those nurses prepared by the IPNRC to teach parish nursing
  • Supplemental Modules 2005 and Supplemental Modules 2007 - developed for use in parish nurse continuing education
Each course is periodically reviewed to maintain up-to-date material and relevancy.

Core Competencies
Each module has core competencies that:

  • Describe fundamental knowledge, skills, and behaviors expected of an entry level parish nurse
  • Serve as guidelines for educators, students, parish nurses, congregants, and employers
  • Constitute the basic requisites for successful completion of the basic educational program.
